  • I lived in Burnsfield Street 1946 – 55 (you can just make out the entrance to that street on the extreme left of the picture). When I lived there I remember that shop as being a ‘ladies and baby’s’ wear shop (note the error). Jack Elmore’s shop was on the other side of Station Street, (Alma Terrace/Rosemary Lane) opposite this shop and behind your right shoulder when you are looking at this photo. In this photo you are looking towards town, in the opposite direction to the railway station.

  • In the 50’s and 60’s the shop on the left used to be Freddy Smarts corner shop. He used to have a massive Alsation dog. Jack Elmore’s shop used to be on the end of Alma Terrace on the corner of Rosemary Lane. Freddy Smart also had a barbers shop on Market Hill/High Street.
