New Course for 20ft Drain Part 1 Tesco Development
Photographs showing the relocation and construction of the new cut for the 20ft drain. The work has been carried out to enable the building of a Tesco supermarket in Chatteris. The depth of the new cut is approximately 7-8 mtrs, the clay surface is covered with sheeting material with locking concrete blocks laid on and then in filled with a gravel mixture. Several areas in the floor of the drain have been cut to a lower level to enable underwater species of wildlife and plants to thrive. The green area showing is grass seed which has been high pressure spayed on, to ensure a strong growth along the banks. At the North and South ends of the new cut the water is blocked off by dams, which are removed after pumps located at both ends have pumped water into the new section, this is to ensure a balanced supply of water fills the area. The construction work is being carried out by Fox Company, on behalf of Harrier Developments Ltd. Photographs taken 18th December 2013, more to follow.
