The former Five Bells Public House, Wenny Rd, Chatteris

Comments about this page

  • My great-grandfather, Moses Cave and his son (also Moses) kept the Five Bells for several years. Moses senior seems to have been there from around 1886 until his death in 1908: Moses junior seems to have moved out by 1911. I have two beer measuring jugs from the pub, which I inherited from my father.

  • Thank you for your help, Janet, we have North Witchford records of 1906 and you have given us a longer period. Are we right that the site is now the Richard Wing site?

  • I remember Mr&Mrs Harding, my grandfather Fred Clarke farmed Wenny Farm, during school holidays my brother Hugh and I were sometimes allowed to go and buy packets of crisps.
