Evacuee's notebook Westmoor House
This is the first page of a notebook kept by Jacon Kroll when he was an evacuee to Chatteris. He stayed in Westmoor House with Mr and Mrs Curtis. It states his name and address on the inside cover, and says ‘What I want to remember’ The first entry is dated 16.10.39 and is written in German. Having arrived in England from Germany on the Kindertransport in July 1939, he won’t have known much English as that point. The first entry is about the first bombing over England. There are then two addresses, one of a relative in Poland and one of his sister in England, and finally a sentence saying he got a letter from his mother on 6.12.1939
