Percy Thornlow Tate Lance Corporal G/14883 13th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment Died: 31 July 1917 Percy Tate was born about 1892 in Chatteris. Percy Tate lived in Skeel’s Yard, Bridge Street in 1911. He was 19 and lived with his parents, Henry and Jane and a brother and sister. He was employed then as a carpenter. He was a keen churchman and acted as the organ blower at Chatteris Parish Church He enlisted at the beginning of the war in March and became a lance corporal in the Royal Sussex Regiment. He was killed by a machine gun bullet on the opening day of the 3rd Battle of Ypres. His body was not found and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate in Ypres.
