Pte Percy Sole 14286 1st Bn Northamptonshire Regiment Died: 24 September 1918 Percy Sole was born about 1895 in Chatteris. In 1901 his father was a farmer and the family lived West St. By 1911 they had moved to London Rd. Percy enlisted in Northampton on 1st September 1914. His occupation was a labourer. His service record stated that he was 5 ft 6 inches tall with blue eyes and brown hair. Percy was wounded at Trones Wood in July 1916 but returned to the front and was killed in action on 24th September 1918 when the 1st Bn Northamptonshire Regiment took the village of Pontru from the Germans. Percy is buried at Bethaucourt Communal Cemetery in Pontru, NW of Saint Quentin.
