Chatteris WW1 Soldier Lt Roger Charles Marshall. Chatteris Remembers Biography
Roger Charles Marshall Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery Died: 7th January 1918 Roger Charles Marshall was born in 1890, the second son of Grace and Frederick Marshall, who was the rector of Doddington. It would seem most likely that Roger is on the Chatteris memorial as his mother married Cecil Ruston after her first husband died and they lived in the town. Roger moved to Sumatra and lived there for several years. He returned to join the army in 1915. In the Royal Artillery he was based in Ireland at the time of the Easter Uprising and then went to France. He was taken ill and sent back to England, where he spent some time in a hospital in London. He contacted pleurisy, followed by pneumonia and he spent the last month of his life back in Chatteris. He id buried in Doddington Churchyard. .
