John Negus Private 900, 22nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers Died 25th July 1916 John was born in 1885, the fifth child of John and Maria. In 1911 the family was living at 8 Curtis Row, when John the elder was a Farm Labourer, his wife having died between 1901 and 1911. John junior was working as an engineering foundry clerk. John joined the army in September 1914 and was posted to France on 16th November 1915. He was in the 22nd Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers when he died of wounds on the Somme. John has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
