George Chapman Private, 206815, 3rd/4th Battalion, The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment) Died December 30th 1917 George was born in 1897, the younger son of Mr and Mrs Chapman of St. Martin’s Road. We cannot find from census documents where George lived in either 1901 or 1911. George was originally in the Middlesex Regiment, no. 26942, then transferred to the Queen’s who were opposite the Hindenburg Line between Cambrai and St. Quentin when George, who was a Lewis Gunner, was killed. He died in hospital after being wounded by a shell. He is buried in Epehy Wood Farm Cemetery. File contains: • CWWG Certificate • ”Soldiers Died” entry • Photo of him and article about his death
