Pte Frank Corney 12595 1st Bn Suffolk Regiment Died: 01 September 1918 Frank Corney was born about 1895 in Chatteris. In 1911 he lived with his mother who was a widow on Station Street. He was a grocer’s errand boy at the time and worked for My Lovell. Frank enlisted on 31st August 1915 in March and joined the 1st Bn Suffolk Regiment. He served in France before being drafted to Egypt where he caught a “fever” and was sent home. He was sent to Salonika on November 29th 1915 and died there on 1st September 1918, “cause of death unknown”. A large number of people in the regiment died of influenza and malaria at the time.
