Gunner Ernest Skeels Royal Field Artillery, No. 174400 Died 15 April 1917 Ernest Skeels Ernest was born in about 1893 in March, Cambs. In 1911 he lived at 15 Pound Road, Chatteris, Cambs with his grandmother Ann, his father Arthur (who was a widower) and his brother and sister. His father was a horsekeeper on a farm and Ernest was a farm labourer. Ernest enlisted in Woolwich and was a gunner in the Royal Horse and Field Artillery and was number 174400. He was formerly a horsekeeper in the RAVC. He died at sea on April 15th 1917. His body was never found and he is commemorated on Chatby Memorial in Alexandria in Egypt.
