Gunner Arthur Thomas Gowler 245582, B Bty, 93rd Bde, Royal Field Artillery. Died on March 22nd 1918 Arthur Gowler was born about 1893 in Chatteris. In 1911 he lived in 24 Anchor St with his older brother, sister and parents. He and his brother were farm labourers. Arthur went to the front early in 1916. In June 1918 it was reported that Arthur was wounded and missing. He had been struck by a machine gun bullet and taken to a dressing station but then nothing had been heard about him. It wasn’t until 1st November 1918 that he was reported killed in action on March 22nd 1918 in the German Spring Offensive. Arthur is buried at Grevillers British Cemetery near Bapaume.
