Burnsfield school staff 1965

  • Bill, I’m afraid not, in those days my parents only spoke about “Mrs Gittus, Miss Genner” etc.

My mother joined the staff at Burnsfield as a non-teacher helper but then was made a full (though unqualified) teacher for several years. She loved her time there. Her classroom was at the end, opposite the “mound”.

  • Thank you for your swift reply, Martin, fully understand. We have so many Mr & misses to be identified from that age.

  • Mrs Lilian Smith on the front row right is my late mother. She died last year aged 93 and fondly remembered her times at Burnsfield. My late father Henry was Head of Maths at Cromwell

  • Sorry to hear about Mum and thank you for commenting on the site. Would she have mentioned by any chance the Christian names of any of the other teachers? They probably remained friends for many years.

  • I knew all of these, Miss Doris Starkey, Mrs Cottam
