  • Interesting that on the first photo there is a roundabout where the Bridge St to Doddington Rd railway crossing gates used to be. Photos exist of the A141 by-pass being laid on the old railway track in 1983 and it was assumed the roundabout was installed then! On this photo the gasworks cottages “Gas Row” have been demolished but it is unclear if the gatekeepers house (compulsory purchased 1981, we thought for the A141)is still there. Do any long-term residents recall when the rails were taken up & the roundabout constructed between the closure of the line in 1967 and 1983? Did the rails rust away for years or were they cleared when the station closed? Could date this whole set of photos as 81 if the roundabout WAS built then in preparation for the A141.
