38-48 New Road
Terraced cottages at 38-48 New Road, Chatteris. Was also referred to as “New Street” in some records. Some children in Victorian-style dress and coats, and a man with a bicycle. Residents of the cottages can be seen.
The far cottage (48) was probably occupied by George Angood and his wife, Mary, at the time of this photograph. It is thought that the wooden board at the 1st floor may be an advertisement for George’s business, and that the top line says “G Angood”.
The terrace still exists in a similar form, and is Grade II Listed under the Historic England protection scheme.
Photograph found in Chatteris Museum collection.
